Does Figma have text styles?

Figma is a powerful design tool used by designers to create user interfaces, icons, and more. One of the essential aspects of design is text, and Figma provides various options for customizing text to suit your needs. However, by default, Figma does not come with premade text styles like some other design tools do.

Customizing Text in Figma

In Figma, you have complete control over how you want your text to look. When you add a text element to your design, you can modify it in several ways:

  • Font Family: You can choose from a wide range of fonts available in Figma or even upload custom fonts to use in your design.
  • Font Size: Adjust the size of the text to make it more legible or emphasize certain elements.
  • Font Weight: Make the text bold or light to add emphasis and visual hierarchy.
  • Line Height: Control the spacing between lines of text for better readability.
  • Letter Spacing: Increase or decrease the space between letters to fine-tune the text's appearance.
  • Text Color: Change the color of the text to match your design's color scheme.
  • Text Alignment: Align the text to the left, center, right, or justified as per your layout requirements.
  • Text Effects: Apply effects like underline, strikethrough, or shadows to enhance the text's style.

Creating Text Styles

Although Figma doesn't come with pre-defined text styles, you can create your own styles to maintain consistency and streamline your design process. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Select the text element that you want to turn into a style.
  2. In the "Text" section of the right sidebar, adjust all the text properties to your desired style, such as font family, size, color, and so on.
  3. Once you've set up the text as you like, click on the "Text Styles" tab in the right sidebar.
  4. Click the "+" button to create a new text style.
  5. Give your text style a name that represents its purpose or usage.
  6. Click "Create" to save the text style.

Now, you have a text style that you can easily apply to other text elements in your design. Whenever you need to use that specific style, simply select the text and choose the appropriate text style from the "Text Styles" tab.

Conclusion

While Figma doesn't provide built-in text styles, its flexibility and customization options allow you to create your own styles easily. By creating and utilizing text styles, you can maintain a consistent look throughout your designs and speed up your workflow. Experiment with different fonts, sizes, and colors to find the perfect text style that suits your design needs.
